Feast of the Dead

By John Houlihan

Sharpe meets Lovecraft in the shadows of a haunted monastery

Book Four: Keeper of the Hidden Flame coming September 2026

Spain, 1810. Deep behind enemy lines, Lieutenant Gaston Dubois leads a detachment of hussars on a dangerous raid through the ravaged countryside of the Peninsular War. Their destination is the ancient Monasterio de St Cloud, where Dubois hopes to find intelligence, supplies, and a brief respite from the chaos of the campaign.

Instead, he finds a monastery filled with secrets.

Within its silent cloisters lurks an unholy mystery older than empires, a horror that preys upon both mind and soul and flesh. Cut off from friendly forces and surrounded by enemies, Dubois must survive his first independent command while confronting a terrifying force that threatens to unleash the Feast of the Dead upon the living.

As the line between faith, madness, and nightmare begins to unravel, Dubois discovers that some enemies cannot be defeated by sabre or musket alone.

A gripping blend of historical adventure and Lovecraftian horror, brought vividly to life. Perfect for fans of Tim Powers, Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, George MacDonald Fraser and Bernard Cornwall.

Praise for the Series
"Epic, swashbuckling Napoleonic adventure expertly blended with chilling Lovecraftian Horror."
"A supernatural Sharpe."
"HP Lovecraft meets Bernard Cornwall."
"Dubois is a riot of a narrator. He's confident. He's boastful. He's a little unreliable. And he's more charming than he has any right to be. Dubois is a delight. Houlihan masterfully combines horror and humour in such a way that it enhances both. If you like horror, you'll love this. If you like humor, you'll love this. If you like historical military fiction... well, what are you waiting for? Add this to your cart " - Reader Extraordinaire
