Extremely Good

Lose 12 pounds in 3 weeks claims the book. And after reviewing it, I believe it just might be possible. Written by the author of last year's "The Fat Smash Diet," the idea of this seems to be, if you want big results, you'll have to push yourself beyond normal limits to attain them. Once again, readers will find Dr. Smith's easy and friendly writing style. At the start of the book, you find out your "dieting type" and then quickly go from there. Since the book is set up for you to lose 12 pounds in 3 weeks, its organized in three 1 week cycles, which is 21 days. For each day, there is a menu plan (four meals a day) and a journal page you to write on. Know too that the exercise recommended each day is cardio. Other goodies include recipes, which easily make up about a third of the book, and a handy appendix ends the book (which contains useful info about BMI's, how to read food labels, etc.). All in all, I feel like this is a great book that is well laid out and very user friendly. One caveat though. Following the plan may not be easy at times, and the book will tell you this outright. Nonetheless, it should benefit many who struggle with their weight loss demons. Also suggest Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff if a shoulder problem keeps you from exercising.

Tired of the empty promises? This book does exactly what it claims to do!

I was fed up with myself! I had three children in four years and it took a huge toll on my body. I was sick of telling myself that it was okay to be overweight, I have three kids. One day I put on my size 12 pants (I am 5' 4") I realized they were getting tight, and I realized I could either buy new, bigger clothes (and feel bad about myself forever) or I could do something about it! I was flipping through the channels and I found "Celebrity Fit Club" on. These were real people with real lives losing reasonable amounts of weight (not like "Biggest Losers" where they had a professional trainer/catered meals and all the time to exercise in the world). So I decided to look at the program they were using and stumbled on the "Extreme Fat Smash Diet", by Dr Ian Smith. Like other reviews have stated, this is an extreme program! I have tried other diets in the past, but the thing I liked about this program was that everything was laid out for you, and you know exactly what you are going to be eating everyday, so you can plan ahead of time. it also promised me that I would lose a significant amount of weight in a short amount of time. I have tried many of the diets on the market today, including Nutrisystem and Michael Thurmonds body makeover, but they were either too hard to stick to or I didn't like the products I was eating. This program is great for me because I can still make dinner for my family and stick to the diet (you do have to be a little creative, though. The diet will tell you that you have 1/2 cup of brown rice and vegetables for dinner, so I will make vegetable soup or stirfry or stuffed peppers. If you think outside the box a little you can come up with lots of options to keep it from being monotonous). The bottom line is, that this program works!! It claims that if you follow the program you will lose 12 pounds in 3 weeks (which I did!) and that if you follow it for 9 weeks you can expect to lose 30 pounds (I am six 1/2 weeks into it and I have lost 20 pounds). This is the only program I have been on that gets your body to push through its "pre-set weight limits" in a short amount of time. And there are no funny "supplements" to take and no pills to buy. It is just a scientific way of losing weight. Your body has to lose weight if you are putting out more calories than you are taking in. And you eat real food, no shakes all day or cutting out entire food groups. The other thing I have appreciated about this diet is the fact that I can have up to 2 snacks a day outside the program. This means that I can occasionally have things like chocolate as long as I keep it under 100 calories (check your local supermarkets...they have about every snack food you can think of in a 100 calorie pack). This way I can have a little "something" now and again and it keeps me sane and on the program. All I really wanted to say was this is the first program I have been on that I actually did and it worked EXACTLY like it said it would.

For a new lifestyle

I was an "Atkins girl" for 2.5 years. I lost 27 pounds on the diet, and unlike most, I found it fairly easy to live with. However, after 2.5 years, I grew very bored with the choices, and when I went abroad on an 8 day trip, I found that I fell into old habits (other countries do not cater to the whacko diet needs of Americans and most of the food that was offered was a carb lover's wet dream). Needless to say, I gained about fifteen pounds back after going hogwild on every carb I could get my mitts on. Once I fell into the trap, it seemed impossible to get out and I was certain of one thing: I did not want to gain all 27 pounds back. I was finally ready to give up my new love affair with Andy Capp's Hot Fries. I've seen many episodes of VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, and while the cast of characters is not necessarily to be taken seriously, some of the weight loss I witnessed was simply profound. I have just finished the first cycle of the plan (each cycle is seven days long) and I have, indeed, lost four pounds, just as the author promised. I have always been one for exercise, so that part is easy (expect to exercise five days per week for about sixty minutes per day). The food, however, is the best part. Every day you are switching up what you are eating, so you never get bored. Even better, each cycle allows more choices (alas! in Cycle 2 you are allowed to have whole wheat bread etc.) Furthermore, there is a log right in the book so that you can keep track of what you are eating every day (it is very helpful when you can actually look at what you have consumed in a day--I wouldn't recommend any plan that doesn't have you do this). You will eat four small, filling meals per day and are allowed two snacks. Best of all, there are "free snacks" of which you can have unlimited amounts (baby carrots, celery, pickles (one of my favorite foods, who could ask for more?), pickled peppers...) Though I have not yet finished the full three cycles, the book has thus far done exactly what it said it would do. This is a lifestyle I can live with, one that I believe most people who really want to lose weight can live with. Lastly, there is a maintenance phase (just like Atkins). Once you lose the desired amount of weight, you are given guidance for keeping it off. Believe me, I was leary about doing something so seemingly "popular," but when something works, it works. My only warning is that you must be committed. If you claim yourself to have no will power, you might want to go for lipo. Otherwise, this one is doable and livable for sure. P.S. If you are a semi-vegetarian (no beef or pork) like myself, you will find that this plan has you in mind. Lots of chicken, beans, fish, eggs...

Extreme is right

Yikes, he isn't kidding when it says extreme! How extreme? The diet basically centers around a four meal a day schedule plus two 100 calorie or less snacks. For breakfast you can expect 2 egg whites and a 1/2 cup of fruit or maybe some yogurt. Meal 2 and 3 will be small (veggie only) salads or a 200 calorie or less protein shake or fruit smoothie. Meal four? Four ounces of lean meat (chicken), 1/2 sweet potato, 2 cups of veggies. Oh, and that's only if you fall into the "alpha" catagory (that means diets have worked for you pretty easily in the past). Otherwise, you'll be cutting back from there even (as a beta or gamma). As a six foot tall male, I find myself hungry. I "cheat" by adding an apple or five ounces of meat instead of four. If you're big, you'll be hungry. Of course this book isn't called the No Pain Happy Face Diet. The great thing about this book is that is exactly as advertised: a hardcore, go big or go home, there's no crying in baseball, give me results now, diet. It's a crash course in small portions and no-nonsense good for you food. You'll eat brown rice, not white and so on. This book does not coddle you or try to pretend that you're making easy changes that you'll never notice. You are going to eat salads and egg whites over and over again. The portions are small. If you want variety you'll have to get it by choosing different vegetables. There is nothing cute or fancy here. (One diet book I read claimed that I could run some cauliflower through a food processor and it would taste just like mashed potatoes -- no it doesn't!) The book starts with a few chapters to get you accustomed to the science behind what you are going to be doing and then it jumps in with exact menus for every single day. The book also classifies you as alpha, beta, or gamma depending your body. The menus come with adjustments (maybe one serving of veggies instead of two and more exercise) if you are beta or gamma. Once you know if you are alpha, beta or gamma, you can skip the whole book and just follow the menus if you want. It talks about things like metabolism and the glycimic index, but you won't need to know anything about that if you just follow the menus. There is no guessing about what to eat when. Your only freedom comes in the form of two a day snacks of 100 calories or less. There is a list which includes some good snacks you might not have thought of like a small number of hershey kisses for that chocolate craving or chocolate covered raisins. Otherwise, expect to have your meals planned out for you each day. There are 21 total days broken into to 3 "cyles" of one week each. Completing three cycles is one "rotation". The first rotation could theoretically get you as much as 12 pounds of weight loss in 3 weeks. Want to lose more? Jump back to cycle 1 or 2 and start again. There is a "maintenance" section to help keep the weight off, but the book's focus is on losing some weight now. There are some recipies

To the Extreme!!!

My sister and I did the original fat smash diet and at first I wasn't sure that it was going to work. When we finished that program, I lost over 30lbs. I still want to lose an additional 20lbs and after reading through this book, I see it happening. I met Dr. Ian Smith in person in Baltimore and he signed the "extreme fat smash" for me. He held a free meeting for over 3 hrs and expressed his concern for individuals who are not healthy. He is more concerned with health than six pack abs. This diet is not truly a diet but rather a life change. To be quite honest with you, anyone who has their mind made up to lose weight, will lose weight. Find what motivates you and go for it. This just so happened to be the book for me. No matter what pill, book, or machine you buy, it has to begin with you. I lost the weight when I made up my mind and followed the instructions of the book without taking any pills, just hard work. Don't go for gimmicks, Smash the fat.
