terrific at giving the big picture

Certainly if you are looking for a lot of in-depth, extremely accurate detail, you would be better off with Big Millers (not Dyce). This book, however, is invaluable for anybody who is starting an anatomy curriculum, because it clearly outlines the core items every veterinary student should know and doesn't confound them with minutia. It helped me immensely when I was first learning anatomy in undergrad, and I still find myself referring to it now that I'm in vet school. If you are looking for a book that tells you every tiny detail, this book isn't for you. If you are looking for a concise overview of all the body systems in easy-to-understand format, then I would highly recommend it. It's the only anatomy book I kept from undergrad that has proved helpful in vet school.
