Ensimäinen rakkauteni (Finnish Edition) [Finnish]

By Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev

A summer remembered from adulthood becomes the measure of a boy's first encounter with desire. Sixteen-year-old Vladimir Petrovitsh, living with his parents near Moscow's Kaluga Gate in 1833, is drawn towards Sinaida, a captivating young woman whose circle of admirers turns courtship into a shifting contest of attention, rivalry and power. His idealised vision of love soon meets emotions he cannot yet understand or control. Told through a framed first-person recollection, this psychological novella holds adolescent experience beside the knowledge of the older narrator looking back. Gardens, wooded paths and ruined greenhouse spaces form the intimate territory of Vladimir's infatuation, where conversation, music and poetry sharpen his hopes as readily as jealousy unsettles them. The retrospective voice preserves the intensity of first love while exposing the uncertainty beneath its imagined certainties. Beyond the immediacy of a summer romance, the narrative probes possessiveness, emotional inexperience and the influence of social class upon intimate relationships. Vladimir's fascination places youthful idealism in uneasy proximity to the more troubled passions of adults, creating a study of love as both private fantasy and struggle for power. The contrast between the boy who feels everything for the first time and the man who remembers gives the work its distinctive psychological tension. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
