Dreaming the Divine

This wasn't too bad. It suffers from being on the simplistic side, which might be Cunningham's way of trying to keep it down to earth for anyone to understand. He offers up a good overview of Sacred Dreaming from several different cultures, techniques, rites and spells. It's worth considering to supplement any other Dream Books you might have or a place to get started.

Interesting

A really neat book - the first part talks about how different ancient cultures felt about dreams and dream time, how they interpreted certain images, rituals used, and deities of the times relating to dreams. I had never heard of these aspects of ancient cultures so I found it really interesting. The second half of the book is about practical things to do such as creating your own dream ritual, keeping a dream diary, recognizing dream messengers, and things like that. I liked the first part of the book more than the second part which seemed to get a little hokey......like when "the dream messenger speaks to you in human voice and says `You are already pregnant though you do not know this yet.' " Hmmmm.....anyway, I'll keep a dream journal.....and there are some nice teas mentioned for relaxing before bed.

A Great Book

I've had this book of Cunningham's for a number of years and have had very good experiences using it. I think it is one of his best books, and am very pleased to see it in print again. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to work with dreaming. It is a very beautiful and informative book.

Dream a little dream with me . . .

Fortunately for us Llewellyn has purchased the rights for this book by pagan favorite, Scott Cunningham. Previously published in 1992, this book went virtually unnoticed until now. Scott wrote with his usual ease, making what seems so difficult to so many, so very easy. This book covers the history of dreaming. That's right dreaming does have a history, a very long one dating back to the Summerians and Egyptians. man has always been both fascinated and baffled by his dreams, that which is produced by the unconscious mind. Around the world there have been dieties dedicated to the dreamtime and to astral travel. This book is a wealth of information of this particuliar subject. Included are lists of deities and symbols, dream rituals, dream spells, and more. What I really liked is that Scott did not do the usual dream interpretations such as a dove means peace; if you see a boat, you're going to travel, etc. This type of noncense is most annoying to those of us who are awakened dreamers. It is really appreciated when you find a book that deals with the subject on a very real level, acknowledging the individual and the messages that they receive from the spiritual realm. If you buy this book don't forget to have your dream journal handy!
