great send-off for some great characters from a lovely series

With two anime conventions under her belt, Christie knows exactly what to expect at the Yatta Anime Convention. Even her artist/partner Bethany feels like a pro at the con--especially with her drawing on the official convention t-shirts. Still both girls are in for a few surprises in Dramacon Volume 3 (2007), the final installment in Svetlana Chmakova's super awesome series. Christie and Matt might finally be ready to connect as more than friends. Matt's girlfriend is out of the picture and Christie is out of excuses to not try and make their relationship work. But after two years of avoiding each other and denying their feelings, will these two be able to figure everything out before the convention is over? While Christie knows exactly what she's getting into at the convention, Bethany is completely surprised when she finds out her mother plans on dropping by the convention center. How will her mother react when she finds out that Bethany is at a comic convention working as, of all things, a comic artist? This year's convention might be a chance for the girls to realize a lot of their dreams--if they can make it through all the con drama first! At this point, I think we've already established that I love Dramacon and think it's brilliant. That said, I still wish this final installment had gone a bit differently. Compared to the first two volumes, Christie and Matt got very little "screen time." Instead much of the comic focused on Bethany's relationship with her mother and her own fledgling romance. While this story thread is very dramatic and compelling, I did start the series with Christie and I would have liked to spend more time on her character at the end of it. Dramacon Volume 3 changes focus rather dramatically in comparison to the first two books in the series (as with the focus on Bethany and with much of the focus moving away from the actual convention). That said, this is still a great culmination to a much-loved series. Christie and Matt resolve (most of) their relationship problems once and for all. Bethany finally reveals her love of art to her mother. By the end of the book there is a sense that whatever these characters encounter in the future they'll be okay. Because they have each other. That's a nice lesson to learn and one that this manga conveys very well. Dramacon was almost always cheerful and exuberant so it was nice to see the series end on an optimistic high note because the characters deserved nothing less as a sendoff.

An excellent final volume

Dramacon 3 is a GREAT ending to an excllent series. Fans who enjoyed the first two volumes will not be disappointed by this one. I have to say, out of all of the manga I've read... This ending ranks up there as one of the best. It finishes off the series with a nice feeling of completion - unlike most manga endings, that leave you wondering, "What just happened?" or "That's IT???"

A convention of drama

This is a really great series and pretty short. I think it ended well in this book. It does leave room for additions if the author so chooses at a later time. The characters are believable and even rarer for a manga is for the situations to be believable as well. There's no magical powers or giant robots. Just young adult and real world experiences. I think Svet is a great author for putting together such a neat and addicting series. She has a lot of potential.

Adorable!

Even a hardened shoujo veteran like me was pulled in to the conclusion to what has been an entirely charming series. Every character is human and believable, the art is consistently enjoyable, and the sweet moments are absolutely perfect. I would recommend this to any fan of romance comics a thousand times over.

Dramacon 3

Chmakova does it again! I have to say, I absolutely love this series. When I first picked it up, I was a little critical because it's 'Amerimanga' and as the book would describe me, I'm a bit of a 'manga purist.' The series was a pleasant surprise. I have to tell new readers, though, read the books in order (1-3). Now onto the review-- This was a very fitting ending to the short and sweet Dramacon series. In here, Christie comes back for her third year at Yattacon. Old characters from the second book, and a certain surprise from the first, return. Christie and Matt continue their rollar-coaster ride of a romance. New characters, like Bethany's mom and aunt, are introduced. The story is very fast-paced, quite like a real anime convention. This third installment, you can tell, was a bit rushed. Overall, however, the ending was satisfying and left room for wonderment. Dramacon 3 teaches morals without overly preaching, and just like the two before it, it can make you fall out of your seat laughing. The suspense is thrilling and the romance, well...Let's just say Christie won't be the only one falling in love. Dramacon 3 doesn't disappoint!
