Forced ending, bad characters

I was constantly rolling my eyes or thinking "really?!" while reading this book. I disliked every single character and each one was horribly inconsistent. While Mike's inconsistent character was believable, given the plot, all the others were inexcusable. I've read one or two of her other books and clearly liked them enough to read another. After this one, I doubt I'll pick up another. I also felt confusion as to what the main story was supposed to be. Was it relating to Chloe, war, or one of three other topics that I can't mention without spoilers? The author should have picked a lane and stayed there, or at the very least chosen fewer storylines and woven them together better. The bookwas increasingly all over the place as you got closer to the end. The ending also seemed forced and somewhat unrealistic, which I think came partially from multiple storylines needing to be wrapped up all at once. The inconsistent, flat characters didn't help the ending either. Not recommended.

Lisa Scottoline rarely disappoints!

This story has lots of twists and turns as it touches everything from war to sacrifice to family love.

Dont Go Lisa Scottoline 4⭐⭐⭐⭐ I really love Lisa Scottoline books. But this one not so much. I think the author did an excellent job of developing the characters, there was just alot of them. It wasn't one of those books that I "just could not put down", but good enough i kelpt reading. However, by making both the home front and the medic unit equally important, there was just way too much going on . Which made way too many different characters. It did have some twist and turns.I thought that I could predict where the story was going several times and several times I was wrong. The first chapter will definitely grab you. A woman is bleeding out and dying on her kitchen floor. She struggles to get to the front door by pulling herself along. Someone unknown enters the home, sees her, and leaves. That is what grabbed me. The rest of the story is told from the point of view of her husband, Mike. He is a surgical podiatrist finishing his tour of duty in Afghanistan but will later rejoin for another year. Danielle, Chloe's sister, and her husband have taken care of the baby since Chloe's death and appear to be supportive. But Mike is always being told what to do or not do concerning his baby daughter. Several times i wanted to smack Danielle. The police report and the autopsy report provide information that requires more investigation. When Mike looks over the autopsy report, he discovers that his wife was pregnant with another man's child. Mike's life just seems to go from bad to worse. His wife is dead, pregnant and is possibly a closet alcoholic. His baby screams bloody murder every time she sees him. His practice has been converted into a different practice. You really sympathizes with Mike who is trying to solve what happened to Chloe from her funeral and throuout the book but become very frustrated with him make one bad decision after another. I did overall enjoy this book and the end surprised me.
