Excellent Artwork

I picked this up after seeing examples of Maki Kusumoto's work in Taschens Manga volume. I wasn't disappointed when I opened it, her syle is very original and creative. Kusumoto has an excellent sense of composition within a panel and also the integration of a panel with a page. Her drawing style is very minimal and focuses on the contour of the figures the linear drawing is confident and very felt. The way color is used in a 2 color scheme for each collected issue is well done. I didn't find the plot very interesting, it centers around the relationship between a musician who works in a record store and a beautiful self destructive girl. The story proceeds with their obsession with each other, I found it mostly one note. The plot was claustrophic is nature which did mirror the characters interaction but I found it hard to relate to them. The book also reads very fast since the dialogue is pretty minimal but there is a compensated depth in the artwork. Overall I would recommend the volume to anyone looking for a different spin on manga art and plot. I would give the artwork 5 stars and the plot 3 so 4 is the average.
