The growing outrage over negative stereotypes in the media is leading to action, particularly in children's books. This master's thesis examines the representation and translation of diversity in selected children's literature and analyzes the challenges that arise in the process. The empirical study is based on a detailed analysis of three selected children's books (Something Else, Julian Is a Mermaid and What Will I Be?) and their German translations. With the help of a linguistic-semiotic analysis method, both the original representation strategies and the translational transformation processes are examined. The work has shown that an adequate translation of diversity in children's literature requires a sensitive balance between preserving the integrity of the content and style of the source text and meeting the cultural and functional requirements of the target audience without distorting the interpretative space of the source text.
