This historical novel on medieval intrigue makes quite a pleasant reading. It is full of details and information on the historical context of the plot, accurately-if not pedantically- footnoted. Religious and political issues are intricately merged along the plot, making one wonder what is historical fact and what is fiction. The title may imply that it is just another title in a long series of books on the Graal story or the Templars, seeing conspiracy in everything that is poorely understood or documented. It turns out not to be so. A legend-like backgroung makes itself quite real. Conspiracy seems to be matter-of-fact, the natural thing to do. Change the date, use more prosaic names and shrink the time-span of events;all you get is an account of how contemporary string-movers may influence everything conceivable.
