Over time (twenty-year period) Dementia, The Monster Within, claimed another victim, my husband, Raymond Abel. This book presents my husband and his caregiver's journey through the dementia disease process and the pitfalls of our medical system. It also discusses some causes for dementia, some types of dementia, and the different stages that develop during a person's journey through this disease. This is also resource a guide for the caregiver. Please note that not all victims will act the same as my husband did. Dementia is a slow progressive disease that robs a person of his personality, his memories (short and long term), can make them violent, causes a desire to wander off, not to recognize loved ones, and finally ending one's life. We need to update our Medical System to pay for more of the cost of this terrible disease and not turn our backs on the people that have the greatest need.
