Made for the Fans!

I am a huge fan a Degrassi the Next Generation and I was a fan of the originals from the 80s as well. The only problem I find in the show is that with a drama of this nature many things get pushed forward very fast. The show is only about 23 minutes long after commercials. The extra credit novels offer a unique chance to fill in the gaps of storylines that have already been established but not addressed in the show. There are many things addressed in the mangas that throwback to episodes and fans of the show will see the connection. These were truly made for fans! In the third manga we see Spinner dealing with Darcy being away at Bible summer camp while spinner is at home missing her as the title indicates. Remember when Spinner cheated on Darcy with Paige after pledging abstinence? This story addresses Spinner's struggles with his choice to be abstinent as well as trying to win Darcy's heart back while she is so far away. Meanwhile, Liberty is dealing with the new knowledge that her baby's adoptive family is moving to Chicago, something only briefly addressed on the show. These two things are important story lines that needed some closure and this manga... it goes there.

avoiding temptation, trying to change, trying to accept decisions you make...

This small graphic novel tells the story of "Spinner" who has recently become a Christian as a teen and who has previously been dating a Christian girl who is working at a Bible camp for the summer. He's trying to live up to his new standards for himself (which he discovers is pretty hard - esp when you have no accountability among your friends). The story also involves a character and her feelings and family life following an unplanned pregnancy and giving up her baby for adoption. Compelling book. This book will be more meaningful if the reader is familiar with the degrassi characters (especially season 5 as this story occurs over the summer before seasons 5 and 6. Note that the story also has other characters and there is discussion of a few other issues (including some that may be provocative such as homosexuality, etc). All issues are respected (including Chrisitanity for the most part). Also note: this is not a Christian series or Chrstian book persay. It is very realistic and edgy -- with real life characters and situations.

love the books. so freakin' cool

well, honestly i haven't had a chance to read this one or second or fourth one yet because i seemed to have misplaced the first and second one. So, I haven't had the chance to read the second one yet. But, I can't wait to read them. The first one was awesome. and so was the mangasode.
