Another fun entertaining excursion from T.A. Pratt. A MUST READ

T.A. Pratt does it again with another wonderful and exciting tale of Marla's adventures. Being a person who normally doesn't take the time to sit and read, I found myself delightfully surprised with the way that I was captured by T.A. Pratt (and by extension Marla). The Marla Mason Series presents Magic in a way that one does not really need to suspend your sense of disbelief while still allowing one to imagine and have fun. Now I hear that T.A. Pratt has even begun introducin novella for us die hard fans so go check out his site! Once you begin knowing Marla, you just can not stop. I found myself reading each and every one of the books back to back straight until I finished. I couldn't even sleep since I wanted...no, I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next. Trust me, you will enjoy this book, even if you haven't read the previous novels, but I encourage you to read all of them!

I can't praise this series enough!

Marla Mason is an amazing and riveting character made better by her decisions in life threatening situations that these books continue to present. I was totally surprised at the way this book turned out, it was much better than the jacket describes! Marla has something that Death wants and will do anything to get back. Marla, as we know, will do anything to save her city. Throw in John Wilkes Booth, a man who thinks he's dead, a lich, and a starstruck servant and you have a very interesting story. I can't recommend this series enough to urban fantasy fans!

Original and Absorbing

I finished DEAD REIGN a couple of nights ago, and I enjoyed it even more than I enjoyed its predecessor, POISON SLEEP. In this one, Marla Mason is confronted with the incarnation of Death, and he wants something that Marla has: her dagger of office. When she refuses to give it to him, he banishes her and takes over her city. The situation calls for some creative thinking, and Marla is nothing if not a creative outside-the-box thinking sorcerer. These books are not my usual cup of tea. I'm not usually a fantasy reader, and though I'd never sampled the sub-genre of "urban fantasy", I probably wouldn't have picked up this series had I not come across the author's blog. But I'm glad I did pick them up, because I find Marla to be a very interesting and fairly original character. And her sidekicks are also of the same mold. These are characters you come to know and like very quickly, and that's half the battle in finding enjoyable fiction, in my view. It's also refreshing to find an original take on the world. Marla's magical world, which is at once strange and familiar, is a place about which I want to read more. And then there are the stories. Just when you think something might fall into a pattern (and I haven't read a lot of fantasy lately, but part of the issue for me is that a lot of fantasies seem to be interchangeable), the story goes off in some fresh and unique direction. Strong sense of place, strong plotting and solid writing make these books winners for me so far

Great third volume...

I liked the first two novels of this series...I can now say it has permanently settled into my must have list. Highly recommend reading this series if you are a fan of Jim Butcher, Laurell Hamilton, or any other modern paranormal series. I love the no apologies, whatever it takes, brass pair attitude of the heroine. Great fun!

Truly Unique Story

I loved this book. In this installment Marla dances w/ Walking Death literally. Death is looking for an artifact that Marla is in possession of. Instead of killing her he banishes her from her own city until she is ready to hand it over. Instead of crawling back and giving up the goods Marla sets out to give Walking Death a taste of his own medicine by taking over the underworld. Things don't go quite as planned and Marla's past demons get in her way literally. This book had it all. Necromancers, beings from the underworld, mummies, seers, ghosts and a whole lot of magic. I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series. My favorite authors and books are Kim Harrison-Rachel Morgan series, Jenna Black-Morgan Kingsley series what an innovative concept, Ilona Andrews- Kate Daniels series this character is tough tough tough, Caitlin Kittredge- love her Noctune City series, Rachel Caine- Weather Warden series, Larissa Ione- Demonica series, Richelle Mead- Georgina Kinkaid series and Dark Swan Series, Audra and Stella Price- Eververse series, Yasmine Galenorn- Sisters of the Moon series, Vicki Pettersson- Zodiac series; Jackie Keller- Hell on Earth series, Mark Henry- Happy Hour of the Damned; Patricia Briggs- Mercy Thompson series and Alpha and Omega series; Jocelyn Drake- Dark Days series; Angie Fox- Accidental Demon Slayer
