Why did God create mankind in his image?
The bible tells us four times in just two verses that mankind was created in God's image and likeness. Apparently, God thought that was important.
But why?
Created In His Image: A Love Story takes a fresh look at one of the most familiar stories in the bible and asks a surprisingly simple question. When God said that it was not good for Adam to be alone, he made someone comparable to him-someone with whom he could share his life. But Adam himself had just been created in the image and likeness of God.
Could those two ideas be connected?
Beginning in Genesis and following the story all the way through Revelation, Matt Jones assembles familiar pieces of scripture into a picture that is easy to miss when we read them separately. A woman. A dragon. A beloved. A bridegroom. A king. A lamb. A broken relationship. And a God who refuses to stop pursuing the one he loves.
Along the way, familiar stories begin to look different. The garden becomes more than the story of mankind's fall. The covenants become part of a pursuit. Passover and sacrifice point toward something Satan failed to understand. And the cross, resurrection, and marriage of the Lamb become parts of the same story that began when God said:
"Let's make man in our image, after our likeness."
The bible begins with a marriage and ends with a marriage-and between those two weddings lies the entire story of the bible.
A love story.
