Fourteen-year-old Lizzy Allison and her younger brother Timothy are stranded in the frozen Adirondacks during one of the worst snowstorms of the century. Battling the untamed perils of nature, they embark on a heart-stopping journey of courage, strength, and endurance against all odds.
If you like the outdoors, enjoy adventure and reading of people who are able to rise above the ordinary, this one is for you. This story, the battle to survive of a young brother and sister in the northern wilderness, is a great book to share with your children or grandchildren. There are many lessons here, some quite hard, but good, nevertheless. I highly recommend this one for both you and your children, but don't take me wrong...this is certainly not a "children's book" by any means. Enjoy!
Great For All Ages

I first read this book at age eleven. I was spending my summer in Upper Michigan, in the woods with my grandparents. It was some of the most enriching time of my childhood. I spent many hours silently enjoying the outdoors, and reading many books. Cold River was one of those books, and was one of my favorites as a child. I still enjoy skimming through the book today. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves the outdoors. Granted it is for young adults, but we are all young at heart, right!
Outdoor adventure at its best!

As an English teacher of 7th grade students, I am always on the lookout for good read-alouds. This book fit the requirements perfectly. Equally appealing to boys & girls, it keeps students riveted as the young brother and sister go down Cold River. There are a couple of slow spots, but in general the action is fast, the subject matter interesting, and the kids never wanted me to quit reading...which is the true test of a good book for young adults.

An excellent book! It has Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Himself, and Man vs. Man conflicts. A survival tail that will make you laugh, cry, and occasionally have the hairs on your neck standing on end. Living in the moutians of New York I can see this story happening. You'll love this book!
