Light and enjoyable bogged down by poor translation

"Clear Skies" really, really reimnded me of the Harlequin Romance novels I used to gobble up in my teens. It really is a sweet, heartwarming story of a couple of orphans who pretty much bulldoze their way into a family. I grew to love every single character in this novel. I think my favorite was the sister who never actually shows up in the book but is only talked about! I also loved the glimps into Japanese family life provided by this novel (although that may be like saying that watching "All in the Family" is like getting a glimps of American family life - Yikes!) There are a couple of negatives to this book. The first is that I found the translation terrible. It was very confusing at places and very disjointed. I feel like there was a very good book in there somewhere but either it was poorly written or poorly translated. The second negative is not really a negative but a warning. This book is not really yaoi but shonen-ai. There are only a couple of kisses and the main focus seems to be more on the family than the couple. More like an episode of "Eight is Enough" than what you find in your typical yaio novel. But I enjoyed the heck out of this book and I recommend it. I just wish you could check this out of the library like I used to do with series romance novels!
