English summary: "Christians in Egypt" developed from a series of lectures held at the University of Gottingen concerning the history and present condition of Christian communities in the Near East. The lecture series, which is in its third year, is designated as a common meeting of the Chair of Ecumenical Theology and Oriental Church and Missionary History and the Seminar for Egyptology and Coptology and is dedicated to the entire spectrum of the two-thousand year history of Christianity in the Near and Middle East, a region that had boasted a long tradition of religious diversity and which today faces an uncertain future. The first lectures in this series were held during the summer semester in 2013 and provided an overview of the history of the Egyptian Christians from the first Christian century to the "Arab Spring." The lectures were concerned not only with the largest of the oriental-Orthodox churches, the Coptic Church of Egypt, but also with other Christian denominations within the purview of Egyptian history. The total of eleven lectures in all illuminate the history and culture of Egyptian Christianity from ancient monasticism and the ecclesiastical politics of Patriarch Athanasius in the 4th century to the Protestant missions in Egypt in the 20th century and the disputes concerning the existence and nature of Christian church buildings within the context of a Muslim-majority society. Die Ringvorlesung, die in das dritte Jahr geht, widmet sich als gemeinsame Veranstaltung des Lehrstuhls fur Okumenische Theologie und Orientalische Kirchen- und Missionsgeschichte und des Seminars fur Agyptologie und Koptologie der ganzen Bandbreite und der zweitausendjahrigen Geschichte des Christentums im Nahen und Mittleren Osten - einer religiosen Vielfalt, die heute einer unsicheren Zukunft entgegen blickt. Die erste der Vorlesungsreihen spannte im Sommersemester 2013 den Bogen uber die Geschichte der agyptischen Christen von den ersten nachchristlichen Jahrhunderten bis zum "Arabischen Fruhling". Sie widmete sich dabei nicht nur der grossten der orientalisch-orthodoxen Kirchen, der koptisch-orthodoxen Kirche Agyptens, sondern auch anderen christlichen Konfessionen auf agyptischem Boden. Die insgesamt elf Beitrage in Christen in Agypten werfen Schlaglichter auf das antike Monchtum und die Kirchenpolitik des Patriarchen Athanasius im 4. Jahrhundert ebenso wie auf die protestantische Mission im Agypten des 20. Jahrhunderts und die umkampfte Frage des Kirchenbaus in einer muslimischen Mehrheitsgesellschaft.
