Book twelve of the Sean Murphy series. This adventure opens with Colonel Anderson's assassination. Anderson, Sean's boss, mentor, and friend, is the owner of Eyeball Inc., a security service provider to the nation's 'alphabet' agencies. The assassination pulls in the FBI, which has a long working relationship with Eyeball.
The assassin, the grandson of Sa'd Ibn Atiq, a jihadist the Eyeball team captured earlier in this series, is focused on killing Sean. He holds Sean responsible for his grandfather's death. Khalil gets support from the Imans at the Islamic Societies of Baltimore and Chicago, both former followers of Sa'd Ibn Atiq.
In order to exact revenge, Khalil finds himself working with the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. But the IRGC is playing Khalil as the patsy in their plot against the Federal Reserve. As the plot unravels, there is a run on a London bank, and a senior Iranian UN official is recalled.
The search for Khalil culminates in the kidnapping of Sean's daughter, Wanda.
