Like sitting in a workshop with Lian

I have had the good fortune of attending several of Lian's workshops. He is a gifted, generous instructor; and looking through the pages of his newest book is like sitting with him while you work through the lessons. As he usually does, he again covers both eastern and western techniques in a manner that is very user friendly. Love this newest book!

Extraordinary, complete guideline to a cultural marriage

This book fulfilled every expectation. Clearly didactic and with a generous inclusion of examples, it is the best flower painting text for sumi-e and watercolor lovers. Not for beginners.

Chinese Watercolor Techniques

This book not only takes some of the mystery out of chinese brush painting, but also explains the philosophy behind the beautiful work. It is most helpfull to those of us who paint impressionistic watercolors in the western style and are trying to free ourselves of overpainting with too much detail ie. to find and paint "the essence." A great book!
