In industrialised countries, obesity is becoming an increasingly serious problem. Obesity affects not only adults but, to an ever-greater extent, children as well. It has an impact on the health and quality of life of those affected. The issue of obesity is particularly pressing in childhood, and sports scientists can play a significant role in prevention; this is why this topic was chosen. In addition to genetic predisposition, lifestyle also plays a key role in the development of obesity in childhood. A questionnaire was used to investigate whether there is a difference between the lifestyles of normal-weight and overweight 12-14-year-old children. The literature review deals generally with the problem of obesity. In the experimental section, the pupils' responses are statistically analysed, and a range of possible factors influencing weight status are identified. Based on the results, conclusions and recommendations are formulated regarding the pupils' health behaviour, particularly that of overweight pupils.
