Caught Between the Moon and Zenith City is a collection of moon captures from the North Shore region of Lake Superior. This dreamy book is intended for those who enjoy the magic moonlit nights on the water, lighthouses, Lake Superior's scenic shoreline, and the changing seasons and moods of the world's largest and greatest lake. The North Shore is a popular destination for those looking to star gaze as the city of Duluth and nearby surrounding scenic areas are known for dark night skies with a significantly lower amount of light pollution.
Over the years I have been up well before dawn to catch a whisper of a crescent moonrise only to fade moments later in the morning light. I have scouted numerous locations and followed the moon's rise and set patterns to catch it in the right place at the right time so long as the weather cooperated. Other times the moon has caught me by surprise, and I was fortunate enough to have my camera with me. The nights lit by the full moon seem to be full of energy that draws out crowds to stargaze whereas the nights where a sliver of crescent slips away shortly after sunset lull us to sleep a little bit earlier. The moon also appears to change in color and angle through the year which adds to the magic, mystery, and beauty of the night sky.
My hope is that this book inspires people to turn off their device and get out and look up at the night sky more often. Let the beauty of the universe wrap you up in its celestial blanket of black velvet skies and star dust.
