A series that has something for everyone

Cardcaptor Sakura is one of those books you can pick up anytime anywhere. It grabs your attention with its comedic characters, underlying romances and quick action. It's a manga recommended for all ages but that doesn't make it a simple children's story. You have hinted boy love and girl love themes, which doesn't go unnoticed by those of us who have ever read such type of manga before. It's not the main focus of the storyline so no one who may be disturbed by this should dismiss this book. It actually makes for some comedic moments between Sakura and Li over Yukito and lightly serious between Yukito and Toya. What really grabs you in Cardcaptor Sakura is the beautiful artwork done by the elite team of CLAMP. Do they ever really disappoint when it comes to the detail of their work, from simple moments between a girl and her stuff animal-like guardian or elements of nature taking human form for battle? And as I've said before, this is a funny series and I look forward to finally finishing the second series of manga of these delightful characters.

And The Hilarity Insues...

Always read lighthearted manga with a friend...case and point. The first novel was above average and CLAMP was able to move away from the collection + cute = pokemon stereotype. The second novel includes several 'adult themes' the largest of which are the developing relationships between Sakura and Tomoyo...it is quite sudden and much like the sailor Uranus and Neptune relation...except without Sakura's knowledge. "I love you Sakura" "I love you too Tomoyo..." *Sakura walks away* "No, I mean I LOVE you Sakura" The newest character, Li, develops a gender defying relationship with Yuki...once again without Sakura or Yuki's knowledge...I think this will have a deeper (non sexual) meaning later in the novels. Anyway, its light hearted manga goodness from those what brought you the Magic Knights Rayearth.

Cardcaptors Sakura #1 rox da house! Ok, off the slang. I thought that this comic book had really sweet (cool) animation. I liked how they showed their actions in the book. For instance, when they're mad, you can tell THEY'RE MAD. It's really nice also because there are five of the smaller comic books combined into one for less mula, I mean money. The five main characters are Toya (Sakura's brother), Yuki (Toya's handsome friend), Tomoyo (Sakura's rich best friend), Kerberos (Kero is his nickname and he's the 'keeper of the clow cards'. A funny and hilarious 'stuffed animal' who talks), and, of course, SAKURA (The main character of the comic who is trying to find and capture all the clow cards). Sakura, the cardcaptor, was your average, athletic, fourth grader until she went down into the basement. There she found the Clow card book. Suddenly, when she opened it, images of creatures flew out of the book, surronding her, then left out of the room. Little did she know that this was the start of a hectic, long-going adventure. The comic book is also interesting because, like all Japanese comics, they have a little romance going on between two character, Yuki and Sakura. Hopefully, if you buy this book, you'll enjoy it as much as I do and be in suspense waiting for the next book supposedly coming out on December 31, 2000. ^_^

Disturbingly cute -- but you gotta love it!

The first thing you'll notice about Cardcaptor Sakura is theincredible "pinkness" of the cover. Yes, folks, this book isunabashedly aimed at girls. English-translation publisher Tokyopop.com (formerly Mixx) has made CCS the flagship title of its new "Chix Comix" line, although there's no reason why guys shouldn't enjoy it too. Despite being CLAMP's most cutesy, sugar-coated work ever, Cardcaptor Sakura still has a smart, engaging plot. Girl opens book, girl loses cards, girl has to get cards back. Okay, so it's not exactly "Magic Knight Rayearth" in terms of scope, but hey! We all love a good adventure story. However, it does tend to be formulaic at times, with Sakura fetching a new card every chapter or so. Then there's her silly schoolgirl crush, and the cute animal sidekick Kero, and the bratty older brother ...So why the 5 stars? Well, despite the lack of an earth-shattering plot, this cavity-inducing story is still a wonderful adventure to read. No two Sakura stories are the same -- she captures each new card using a new trick. The complexity increases after each chapter, which is what makes it fun. So, whether you're a guy or a girl, get this book and enjoy the adventures of everyone's favorite little cardcaptor, Sakura!

Clamp has really out done themselves this time.

Clamp is known for it's beautiful artwork and Card Captor Sakura is far from an exception. The story centers around a little girl named Sakura who happens upon a magic book next to a small sleeping mouse-like creature with wings. She opens the book and 20 cards escape from it. When the mouse creature awakes she discovers that the book is the book of Clow (pronounced like cow not glow) and the cards (clow cards) were trapped inside of it. Since it was she who released them it is now Sakura's job to capture them, hence the name. She goes off and with the help of the mouse creature (I can't for the life of me recall his name) uses a bunch of unique fighting outfits and weapons. This one deserved 6+ stars not 5.
