Carbon Collected

By: Schultz, Mark

The complete five-volume Carbon series--ten years of pictorial experimentation and evolution--is collected here in a single mammoth volume

Featuring more than 420 illustrations and drawings, Carbon Collected showcases the extraordinary imagination and artistry of Mark Schultz. Schultz has built a body of work that fuses adventure, science fiction, fantasy, mythology, natural history and visual storytelling with remarkable craftsmanship. Across its pages are daring heroes, prehistoric wonders, distant worlds, mythic landscapes and the beloved characters of Xenozoic, including Jack Tenrec and Hannah Dundee. From finished illustrations and paintings to concept designs, sketchbook pages and preliminary studies, this collection offers an intimate look into the creative process of one of comics' and illustration's distinctive voices.

Gathering the contents of Carbon Volumes 1 through 5, this edition traces Schultz's artistic development through a decade of work, revealing both the consistency of his vision and his continuing exploration of technique, storytelling and design. Readers will discover artwork from Xenozoic, Storms at Sea, Paleonauts and numerous personal and commissioned projects, alongside rare archival material, developmental work and previously unpublished illustrations.

As a special bonus, this volume includes more than 80 pieces not previously published in the Carbon and Various Drawings collections, plus an introduction by Schultz and an exclusive interview in which the artist discusses selected works and the ideas, influences and creative decisions behind them.

A celebration of imagination, craftsmanship and artistic growth, Carbon Collected presents a broad survey of Mark Schultz's diverse creations.
