An OBJECT of affection

This book is a historical romance set in the 1800's Shanghai China. Two people are attempting to reach Heaven through sexual bliss. Both the hero and heroine have troubled family dynamics. The major issue that I had with this book was that it initially appeared that the motives of the hero and the heroine were not based on pure love and attraction, but rather based on using and scheming. The hero went into the relationship because he was threatened by his employers daughter( this is the heroine) , and he wanted 'feminine energies" to keep his little soldier at attention-- so to speak. The heroine initially went into the relationship out of boredom and overwhelming curiosity. They did not iniially exhibit true respect or love for one another, considering the inimate and "spiritual-sexual" task that the lovers set before them, this attitude seemed cold and calculated. However, finally , the lovers did prevail... and did truly fall in love. They over came many MANY obstacles and reached the state that they so ardently sought. Its a good erotic read, that at times does make you think about the many complicated issues that continue to puzzle human beings.

superb Taoist historical romance

In 1898 Shanghai, Charlotte Wicks runs her family home which requires taking care of her mentally-impaired brother and seeing to her squanderer self-indulgent father. Though she loves her sibling, she has no hopes for any relationship with a man; still Charlotte dreams of escaping the web she lives inside of as she envies yet feels good about the ecstatic happiness her best friend Joanna Crane (see HUNGRY TIGRESS) has obtained. Adding to her desires is finding a tigress' sacred scrolls that have Charlotte yearning to learn all that it contains. Ken Jin runs the Wicks business from behind the scenes. He also is a dragon, but is on the brink of losing his prowess unless he meets a tigress that he can call his. When Charlotte who he already is attracted to, asks him to teach her to be a tigress, Ken feels much more enlightened since he began instructing Charlotte and believes nirvana is attainable. The latest Taoist historical romance is an exhilarating tale starring a fascinating tutor and a beguiling pupil. Though somewhat similar to some of the previous novels with an Asian-western match-up, fans of the series will still appreciate the lead couple's evolving relationship in which the audience will wonder just whom is teaching who as the pairing of Yin and Yang make both of them complete and prove that the whole can be greater than the sum of the parts. Readers will appreciate the latest entry in the wonderfully erotic Tigress tales. Harriet Klausner
