A gothic tale full of foreboding and mystery.

A troubled lady's maid/nurse takes the job of caring for an elderly, eerily silent, almost catatonic woman, in an isolated manor house set on the cliffs in Cornwall. Each of these women have their back stories woven into the novel, which explains how each came to be in the situation they are presently in. The last third of the book had me hurrying to get to the conclusion to find out the outcome.
