In Blood Is the Life, the third installment of the Vampire Chronicles series, Enlil and Charlie have little time to enjoy being together once again.

They must travel to New York with Enlil's brother, Enki; his daughter, Nanach; his son-in-law, Jachin; and Jeeves when Jeeves's husband, Gerard, is kidnapped by the Order of the Nyx.

To make matters even more dire, a new group of vampires has been discovered in the city, and the iconic streets of New York are being stalked by a murderer with a voracious appetite.

The small group loses patience waiting for the rest of the Council to arrive and decides to visit Club B, where the newly discovered vampires can be found. While they recover from the shock of seeing Zahira, a familiar face from long ago in Atlantis, Enlil is attacked psychically.

He refuses to name the attacker when pressed, but he begins to travel back into his own ancient memories of Atlantis. Meanwhile, the Council must search for Gerard and his captors, and romance is in the air between Dagan, a member of the new vampire group, and the sultry human, Nicky, who works at his mother's club.
