This book will stay with me forever

Please read this book if you love England, warm family memories, and a lesson in how to live a full life. These characters will stay with you. I read it slowly to savor it because I didn't want it to end.

A powerful story of family, love and loss

It is 1940 and the bombs are falling in London. Reg and Millie make the heartrending decision to send their 11-year-old girl Beatrix (Bea) to the United States to live with strangers until the war is over. After a two-week ocean voyage, Bea arrives in Boston to stay with the Gregory family who have two boys, one a bit older and one a bit younger than Bea. Bea is welcomed by the loving, affluent Gregory family and enjoys summer vacations on their island in Maine. She becomes the daughter Nancy Gregory always wanted. Meanwhile, her parents in London unravel, missing precious years of Bea's childhood. Beyond That, The Sea is told through multiple POVs and is primarily character driven. This powerful, emotional, beautifully written story of love and loss carries the reader across the ocean and through the decades. Highly recommended complex family drama and historical fiction.
