Beside Lake Como - Where there's Love, there are Lies is a compelling narrative about betrayal, adultery and treachery that will draw you in. Set firstly in a recently acquired 19th-century Palladian mansion in Kent, where an illicit affair between wealthy middle-aged Italian Lucrezia Bonucci, and Ben Wilder, a much younger financially struggling English artist she has hired to paint a mural in her lounge takes place. The spectacle then transfers to Lucrezia's deluxe lakeside apartment in the scenic paradise of Lake Como where private needs and reality gradually reveals all.
With true-to-life characters, this disquieting work of fiction also offers insight into the inequitable lives of a family of Italian village bar owners. As the protagonists move on, an unlikely marriage takes place between the bar owner's highly attractive daughter, Claudia Riva, to Rocco (the Rock) Martinelli, an ex-boxer, courier driver and dessert maker, after he finds some exceptionally valuable jewellery that was hidden below the lake waterline from the advancing Allies during WWII. Subsequently, the plot takes on a composite twist that puts everyone's trust and emotions to the test. Especially when Claudia turns to faking her own kidnapping, so that she can elope to the USA with artist Ben.
