This is a thorough revision of one of the landmark books in the field of neuropsychiatry. The authors, one a distinguished neurologist and the other an eminent psychiatrist, provide a clear, well-integrated account of the behavioral aspects of neurological conditions and the neurological aspects of psychiatric disorders. Earlier editions presented the view, then provocative, that disordered brain function underlies psychiatric illnesses. A more balanced view characterizes the Fourth Edition, in which the authors discuss the most recent data from the neurosciences and molecular biology, including changes in the brain induced by the environment and by emotions. There is also a valuable new clinical chapter on differentiating the etiologies of disturbed behavior.
Avoiding the deluge of information in multi-authored volumes, this very readable text provides a consistent approach to the understanding and diagnosis of disturbances of behavior. An outstanding volume

What if all text books were this gripping and balanced? They'd all be classics -- and would be read by many types of people, not just students. This is the best textbook I have ever read. It is full of insights and information that are unique or difficult to find anywhere else. Wish there was more up-to-date material on prions and a discussion of fibromyalgia, but they can be considered for the next revision. I'd also like to see greater consideration of bipolar disorder, which seemed to get less treatment than it deserves. Even scholarly readers will reach for the dictionary occasionally. A glossary might be considered for future volumes. Well done, gentlemen.

Quite a read!

I am an attorney doing research in abnormal psychiatry and neurologic bases for the outcomes. This book was essential to my greater understanding. I also met the good Dr.Pincus and he was charming and pleased to discuss the material I found difficult. I highly recomend this as a need to read if the area is of your concern,
