Bars of Iron: A Dark Romance Between Fire and Moonlight

By v. m.

Piers has always carried a violence he cannot completely master. When Avery becomes the center of his world, love does not extinguish it, it gives his jealousy, hunger, and fear of losing her somewhere new to burn.

The Bars of Iron is a dark romance of obsessive devotion, possessiveness, marriage, and emotional conflict. Piers wants more than Avery's affection. He longs for complete surrender, even as the intensity of his love begins to drive a gulf between them. To him, Avery's love is moonlight, pure and distant, while his own burns like fire beneath the earth. That contrast between fire and moonlight becomes a defining image of their relationship.

Blending the emotional intensity sought by readers of dark romance books with the social pressures of historical romance, the story follows a relationship tested by jealousy, violence, separation, reputation, family obligation, and war. This obsessive romance centers on a man capable of tenderness and brutality and a woman forced to confront the difference between devotion and possession.

This rewritten public-domain adaptation of Ethel M. Dell's The Bars of Iron preserves the central characters, major conflicts, relationship arc, and essential events of the original story while presenting them through rewritten prose with greater psychological immediacy.

For readers drawn to dark historical romance, obsessive love stories, morally difficult relationships, jealousy, emotional coercion, separation, and hard-won redemption, The Bars of Iron: A Dark Romance Between Fire and Moonlight explores what happens when consuming passion collides with a love it cannot control.
