This book provides extensive discussion of treatments and back practioners, including medical doctors, non-MD practitioners, the most widely used treatments, the less common (and more controversial) treatments, new, unusal, and seldom-used treatments, diagnosing your diagnosis, how to be your own low back doctor for acute/severe pain, how to be your own low back doctor for chronic pain, how to recover from ruptured disc, had to get rid of a pain in the neck, how to relieve osteoarthritis-based back pain, advice abouot sciatica, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis, the 25-most effective ways to free yourself of pain, tips on performing pain relieving activities, AND MORE!!

Still the best review of Practitioners and Practice

This book originally appeared in 1985 and was reissued in 1991. Based on a review of questionaires issed to selected individuals, the relative rating of practioners and methods of treatment is still current as of this date (2/2005), judged by my personal experience with treatment of this condition for over 30 years. His bottom line: See a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation if your back does not get well with treatment by someone else, especially if someone has recommended surgery!!
