The event that changed everything

I know in the world of geeks this storyline is sometimes met with lukewarm responses but I think it was designed to shake up the status quo on a book that had highs and lows for years. Sometimes you need an event like this to reboot which is a common practice in comics. It s just entertainment. I liked the story. The Scarlett Witch loses her mind. Pretty cool and David Finch is a great artist.

A very well-done Avengers milestone

Wow, where are all these negative reviews coming from? First off, this book is very well-written. It draws on the entire history of the Avengers and is a rewarding read for longtime Marvelites. Secondly, the events that take place herein were instrumental in shaping what's gone on in the Marvel Universe since then - House of M, Decimation; it all starts right here. You can read this and then go straight to the House of M trade paperback, and it's one continuing, fantastic story. I found Decimation to be kind of disappointing, however - it's really just about the aftermath of House of M, and didn't need to be treated as a named event. But I digress - this is a fantastic read, and it's a must-have for longtime fans.

The Best Avengers Story Ever

I have been reading the Avengers since 1964 and this is my favorite Avengers story ever...and the Avengers has had no shortage of great ones. It is difficult to review a story of betrayal without giving too much away so I will cover the finer points: Story by Brian Michael Bendis, Pencils by David Finch, Inks by Danny Miki and Color Art by Frank D'Armata. If you read comics at all you are aware that these are the four biggest names, in their respective fields, in comics today. Characterization is an order of magnitude greater than any previous Avengers tale. I have bought this book 3 times (not counting the comics) and given 2 copies away. I repeat: THIS IS THE SINGLE GREATEST AVENGERS STORY EVER! Buy it!

Another Mansion Destroyed.

I would love to know which mansion has gotten annihilated the most: The Avengers Mansion or The X-Men Mansion? Anyway, I am not a fan of the Avengers. Never read an Avengers book before this title. I'm sure some die-hard fan is gonna read my review and think I'm a total airhead. Oh well, that's the comic book world. When you decide to off regular characters such as Ant-Man or Hawkeye prepare to get shot at by the continuity police. Anyway, I enjoyed the book. I felt the team's confusion, hopelessness and rage of being attacked by various enemy forces out of the blue. One minute it's Skrulls, the next minute it's a zombie Jack of Hearts. It's just all kinds of madness that would make anybody "hulk" out. Even though I already knew who the culprit was before reading the book I wanted to see the actual event for myself. It was worth reading especially since I'm currently reading the "House of M" storyline which is continuation of the events that take place in "Disassembled". I was grateful for the part that had different members recall their favorite moments in Avenger history. It helped a non-fan like me understand the characters more. I don't have enough room to discuss the pros and cons of event books and the like. I've been reading the X-Men books since 1990-I know the drill: Let's put them in an alternate dimension and give them new costumes! It's just commonplace for mainstream books to revamp their titles every once in awhile to keep old readers interested and hopefully attract new readers and all that jazz. Overall, my opinion is that this book was a good read. Great art, great story, and great characters. This book also includes a nice interview with writer (or wrecker depending on your perspective) Brian Michael Bendis.

Lots of Fun for a non-Avenger fan

I hadn't been reading Avengers since shortly after Perez left the book, but I really enjoyed this one. As usual, Bendis does a great job of moving the story along while giving enough historical detail to help the reader who doesn't follow these books like his life depends upon it. The charcters are engaging and the action is over-the-top. The circumstances surrounding the cause are tragic and disheartening. The art was very good and the last comic in the trade has a stellar collection of artists who's work blends nicely. I also highly recommend the New Avengers hardback, already out, or trade when it comes out. The New Avengers book is a fun read with a lot of humor (Spidey as he used to be written) and plenty of warm-hearted fun. The New Avengers feels more like Young Justice than X-Men. It's nothing like the old Avengers, but it's a fun read.
