Asking for It

'Asking for It' is based on intimate recollections by Joanna Rush, a former Rockette. This powerful story of rape, betrayal and redemption has taken the form of a renowned performance piece and now is available as a memoir (with a dash of fiction thrown in). Standing in for the author, Bernadette O'Connell - or "Bernie" - endures a strict Irish Catholic upbringing. She is unprepared for the daunting task of becoming a Radio City Music Hall Rockette, for the lurking shadows of evil that accompany this dream when she's alone and na ve. Nevertheless, Bernie's undying spirit triumphs by the unforgettably happy, inspirational end of the story.
