Arnulf Rainer

A collection of Arnulf Rainer's (1929-2025) spectacular "overpaintings," which he developed beginning in the 1950s, earning him international renown.

Throughout his life, Arnulf Rainer sought new artistic paths. This volume is a homage to his timelessly relevant art, spanning a multifaceted arc across all his creative periods. Rainer continually developed new artistic strategies. In the 1970s and 1980s, through his intensely physical practice, he created works using hand and finger painting. In the period that followed, he applied paint with broad brushes to achieve a transparent quality. With his innovative oeuvre, accompanied by performative works and extensive writings, Rainer occupies a significant position within post-war art.
