An Officer and a Gentleman by Rachel Lee released on Sep 24, 2004 is available now for purchase. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Captain Andrea Burke is on a mission. Not one asigned to her by her employer, the U.S. Air Force, but a personal one. She wants to be the best officer she can be. Her dream is to make the rank of Colonel. She realizes that as a female officer everything that she does will be examined by the powers that be so she downplays her feminity. She has never had a serious relationship with any man(she is that thing that I hate in romance fiction-the overaged virgin) because she was raised by a neanderthal of a father who felt that women should be kept barefoot and pregnant. The fact that she was able to graduate form the Air Force academy is a testement to her fortitude On her current assignment,Andrea(never Andy, as the blurb on the back of the book says)is military police. She and her sergent are responding to a auto accident and it is here that she meets the new commanding officer of her base,Colonel Alisdair "Dare" MacLendon. In a humorous scene,Dare becomes aware when Andrea leans against him, that the baby faced captain the he thought was a man,has breasts! Ms.Lee was able to do something that I did not think was possible - she took the overaged virgin theme-Andrea is 28 years old- and makes it work. Andrea and Dare are not too happy to be attracted to one another. He because he is her commanding officer and is 12 years her senior, and she because she has plans for her life and fears ending up like her mother-a shadow who is ruled by her husband. Watching Andrea open up and accept that she can have it all with Dare is great. Also, the side plot has Andrea investigating a case of sabotage on the base. When it becomes obvious that Dare is the target,Andrea goes into action to protect her man. A great little book.
