At the time of this review, there is only one other review who is obviously a disgruntled former student from decades ago. I recently read Von Vorys' book, which is on several reading lists within DoD and State training programs. I will not fawn unnecessarily, but I will defend the author from a malicious attack. Von Vorys provides a very good survey of foreign policy as a process, and then a region-by-region discussion of contemporary issues (as of 1997, of course) and their historical context. Finally he concludes by painting a picture of how global stability may be achieved in what he calls a "decentralized world order", lead by the priorities, values, and interests of the United States. This concept is particularly appropriate and valuable in the post-Cold War world. Although it will gradually become out-of-date (as with almost every book on this topic), Von Vorys' book is certainly a worthwhile read for anyone looking to establish a foundation in American-lead global foreign policy.
