a subtle spiritual experience

I read Alpha Centauri a few days ago while sick in bed. At first I thought it was a children's fantasy book. Little by little I found it moving me most deeply, and unexpectingly. In my opinion, the story is dressed on a spiritual, christian based, core concept, similar to the Narnia Chronicles. It gives a refreshing look on the main Christian ideas such as Good vs. Evil, God (or Shaper as he is refered to in the Book) vs. Devil, Garden of Eden, The Original Plan for the Earth, the Fall etc. There is reference to mystical practices such as meditation/contemplation, a way to hear the song behind all creation. And also to myths such as the advanced civilization of Atlantis. Since the storyline is about a girl from our own time who enters the Mythic Age, all the concepts mentioned can be understood as urgently relevent to the readers daily life. I recommend the book. It is an easy read. In my opinion it caters for both children and adult audience.

Awesome Fantasy

This is one heck of a good fantasy novel. I read it many years ago, and I'm sad to see it's out of print. Do yourself a favor and order it used. It's as good as the Harry Potters and better than most fantasy novels on the market today.
