Book Overview

Set in 2006, Adam is a coming-of-age comedy that tells the story of an awkward teenager who goes to spend his final summer of high school with his older sister, who is very much a part of Brooklyn's young and diverse lesbian, queer and transgender scene. Over the summer, Adam, and all those around him, will experience love and friendship, learning the hard truths that those relationships often bring.

Transphobic, includes rape

This book is awful for multiple reasons. It calls transmen pre t lesbians multiple times, and the main character goes as far as pretending to be a pre t trans man to get with a lesbian he likes. He rapes her in the book (which is disregarded) and lies, and this is an awful message for LGBT people or any readers. It spreads false information, and pins a bad rep on trans people.
