The House Without A Chritmas Tree and The Thanksgiving Treas

I am a 5th grade teacher at Beaufort Elementary and I have been teaching for 28 years. I was first introduced to Addie Mills while watching a CBS TV special "The House Without A Christmas Tree". I was a sophmore in college and we were studying for exams. We decided to take a break and watch a Christmas show. In 1976 when I began to teach I came across this book "The House Without A Christmas Tree". I was thrilled to find it and ordered it immediately. Later I saw the book "The Thanksgiving Treasure" and oredered it too. They are both wonderful books. For 20 + years I have been reading both of these books to my 6th graders, 5th graders, and 4th graders. They have loved them and although many of my students are grown they still remembered those books! I tell my classes every year that I will be reading my most favorite books to them. Clearwater, Nebraska just seems like the town I was raised in. Addie Mills and her family and friends seem like they are part of my family and life. I have just finished reading "The Thanksgiving Treasure" to my 5th grade since Thanksgiving is fast approaching and they loved it! There has not been a time when I have read that book that I didn't cried for Mr. Rehnquist's death and Addie getting to keep Treasure. In fact everytime I do read this book to my class, my students cry with me. They can hardly wait for me to read "The House Without A Christmas Tree". I do have the CBS TV special on "The House Without A Christmas Tree" but would like to acquire "The Thanksgiving Treasure". Also I would like to get the other Addie Mills books. Take the time to read these no matter how old you are!!!

One Of My Favorite Childhood Books!

"Each spring Addie Mills looks forward to painting eggs and having a new Easter dress. This year Addie is more excited than usual when she hears that Constance Payne, a glamorous actress, will be visiting her old hometown. Addie, who dreams of being an artist and who wants more than just an ordinary life, finds that she and Constance share the same dream. Then Addie learns some startling things about Constance. How could the woman who told Addie to always hold on to her dream let her own slip away?" This is a brief synopsis of a wonderful installment in the series of books about Addie, a young girl growing up in a small town in the 1940s. I hope that someone puts these books back into print soon!
