whoa..

I have never seen such a marvelous book. This story continues the hit series about Hideki and his persocom Chi. Though it has SOME nudity it is still unsurpassed. If this was a novel it'll be a classic. If Chobits is a porno, the Titanic would be a 5-star adult film.

great series for the open mind

The nice thing about CLAMP is that they have a deft hand when it comes in interpersonal relationships. How "evolved" can machines get? Where will things go from here? Great lines, well thought-out plots, and a fair warning of what age this is suited for all make this a fine addition to your collection or (for you other Librarians out there) your public library. I have added this to our Graphic Novel collection, and will continue to buy. This wonderful series raises some serious philosophical questions about what constitutes human, where technology will lead us, and how dependant we should be on machines. It is worthy of a second look even if you're not into "Graphic Novels" per se' Innovative High School and College teachers could incorporate this into their curriculum, particularly if they are discussing Sociology or Psychology.I find it a delight to read and a gem to own. Having said that, I find it sad that the seriously negative feedback on this title stems from the sexual content....and yet the violence in any other series is accepted without any qualms. Not all graphic novels are for children. It clearly states the age this is geared for on the back of the book. I would not hand an 8 year old this book (they wouldn't get most if it anyway) nor would I hand a copy of "The Crow" to your average 11 year old. A little common sense goes a long way with this sort of book, and the public needs to be educated about Graphic Novels in general and Anime in particular.

So kawaii!

Chobits is one of my favourite manga novels, and I'll tell you why- it's so darn cute, for starters! Sprinkle in some humour, mystery, sci-fi, unique characters, a highly unique plot that leaves you in suspense and demanding more and the amazing art of CLAMP, and you've got yourself a great manga novel!I'd heard many rumours that Chobits was yuri (girl/girl relationships) or pornographic, but I decided to check it out anyway, and boy am I glad I did, as it is neither! There is some sexual humour, swearing and nudity, but it is all rather mild. The rating is 16 and up, but I'd say the rating is a little strong. Suitable for ages 13 and over, in my opinion.Chii is adorable, Hideki is funny, Plum is sweet, and all the other characters are an intoxicating mix of sweetness, mystery, angst, regret, and much more. As you read on, the series becomes slightly darker as pasts are revealed, and the truth behind Chobits becomes closer to being uncovered. Unfortunately I've yet to be blessed with getting my hands on volumes 6 and 7 (8 isn't out yet), but trust me, I'm working on it. Chobits is addictive, once you read one, you need more, so read with caution! :P Can you tell I'm simply smitten with Chobits? Yeah, I'm obsessed. But believe me, it's a treat you must taste to fully appreciate. :) Don't miss out on this one!

Long-withheld revelations ....

First off, I want to say that I think this series is one of Clamp's best. The team is great at building suspense, and in the seventh volume, the secrets of Chi's origins are finally revealed. However, there's still no resolution in sight; though Hideki finally has come to realize his feelings toward Chi, by the end of this volume, a major confrontation with Zima and Dita (the persocom housing the national databank and his 'com protector)has been set up, and he may never get the chance to tell her that she is his "special someone".... The visuals in this series are beautiful, though there are some gratuitous "fanservice" frames of Chi in various states of undress, as in the other volumes, and the images in the final two pages are a little confusing (HEY? What just happened? Did ANYTHING happen yet?). Overall, it's a satisfying read that answers many of the questions the previous volumes posed, and a fun addition to the collection of any otaku, especially fans of Clamp.
