A disappointment from a very skilled author

I actually had to wait a few months to get this book, as it is not very often offered for sale. I could have saved my money. This review will have a small spoiler warning, so consider yourself warned. On reviewing the book before purchasing it, both the author and the synopsis of the book were right up my alley. Off-beat, alternative, slightly sci-fi. Concerned an obese woman that is, apparently, the last woman on Earth who can still conceive, which she does through a stranger rape. An underground group fighting the existing regime, basically kidnaps here and hides her in a remote, "safe" village. So far, so good. Instead of giving birth normally, she "splits in half" and a thin version of her comes out, apparently with the baby. That's it, my friends. She flees and pretty much nothing else happens. A very, very disappointing book.
