This is a most excellent book, describing in fascinating detail the disastrous, ill-conceived campaign against the Zulu Nation in 1879 by the British Empire, which ended with the utter defeat of the army of their commander, Lord Chelmsford by King Cethswayo. Cy Endfield writes with beautiful prose, in the language of that time, which is so much more courteous and refined than today. He paints a clear and often frightening picture of the Zulus and how they managed to destroy a better equiped, modern Western army, using only spears and clubs and better tactics. It also shows the gallantry of the outnumbered British troops as they fight an unequal fight against overwhelming odds. I can't recommend it enough to true fans of military and historic tales !
