Alan Watt finds himself being forcibly evicted from his countryside cottage due to the new climate change regulations as his area has been designated a green re-wilding zone. His only option is to relocate to the nearest smart mega-city like many others in his predicament. Unfortunately though, he can only afford to live in one of the worst areas of the city which has been divided into districts and Alan is forced to rent a small room in a flat block in district nine. The area is full of dilapidated buildings, burnt-out car wrecks, graffiti strewn walls and general deprivation and he wonders how he is going to survive.
