A Thriller that’s Some Math, but Mostly Thrills

The person who recommended this to me described it as a math-based detective story. After reading it, it’s definitely first and foremost a thriller. Cas mentions the math that enables her to do things, but she talks about it in general terms and she never addresses the concepts or does any calculations that take her more than a half sentence of the book to describe. By the time I was a few pages in and realized it was a thriller, I was already hooked. I don’t read much of the genre so I don’t know how it compares, but it’s got a very interesting cast of characters and a thought provoking plot (won’t say more for spoilers). It does have a decent amount of explicit language, so I wouldn’t recommend buying it to give it to a young teen or to read as a family. Also, do be aware that it might be worth your time to buy Null Set, the next book in the series as well. When I finished Zero Sum Game I was very sad that I couldn’t jump right into the next one.
