Another soon to be classic by Christopher Moore

Great book. Very funny. This is your typical Christopher Moore book. Interesting characters, funny diologue & laugh out loud situations. This is a sequel to his third book "Bloodsucking Fiends". Chris does a good job at filling you in, but you might want to check the first one out before buying "You Suck". Although the first one is a very fun read, i believe this sequel is better.

Doesn't Suck

Christopher Moore treats us to stereotyped outlandish and hilarious human (and vampire) behavior. The main characters are all budding comedians with a streetwise flair - one grows to appreciate the extravagant neurotic nuances of each personality. There are many large reality stretches, but we ARE talking vampires. If you appreciate your limitations (daytime, feeding urges), it's not too bad being a vampire: *superpowers - superhot redhead Jody feels a newfound freedom to roam the streets at night wearing very little, despite juvenile catcalls by potentially threatening testosterone-ridden gawker-groups. Safety worries? - not a problem, a nice one to shed. "She slipped comfortably into the new slot the night had made for her, like tumblers of a lock slipping into place." *enhanced senses - as in Gibson's "What Women Want," there is far more to be ascertained about people you meet when you are from the world of the undead. *sex - every event is the incredible best. Perhaps the best character is Abby Normal, the hip-hop goth queen who wants to be "taken" to the other world and becomes the vampires' minion. She's "not inclined to use hip-hop vernacular often, but there are times when, like French, it just better expresses the sentiment of the moment." As in his other books, the high spots are the saucy dialogues between characters. This is only my 4rth CM book and I'm on my way to becoming an addict. "You Suck" is a winner.

Another awesome effort!

I've got to say that Christopher Moore is one of those authors where I will drop other books that I'm reading to start his latest. So when this arrived in the mail, down went everything else. And I've got to say that Bloodsucking Fiends is one of my favorite novels of all time. So when I heard that there was a sequel, I was a little bit worried. It's a hard act to make a book equal and worthy of the last effort. And I'm happy to report that he did a fine effort making a book that is truly worthy of Bloodsucking Fiends. That being said, if you haven't read Blooksucking Fiends, go there. Don't start here. He did a great job bringing in everyone from the last novel and spinning a tight and complex web. We've got the whole crew from the market, the detectives plus everyone else you could possibly think of. Now throw in some teenage angst and you've got a great novel. He also just throws in tons of colorful metaphors and the language really changes by character. From the rasta character, the Chinese characters or just the teenage goths, he's got it down pat. I'd give this review a 10 but I can only give it a 5. So make it a 5+++ Just bloodly awesome!

This book does NOT suck.

They're Ba-accckkkkkkkkkkk .... You fell in love with them in Bloodsucking Fiends. You felt a little trill of excitement when Jody dropped by A Dirty Job. Now they're back, and they are suckier than ever. (In the good sucking way!) Besides having a book cover that is a blast to walk through the airport with, You Suck provides many laugh out loud moments. A fast-paced read with characters we know and love, and the added benefit of Abby, a wanna-be goth with a twist. You Suck is another fun-filled foray through a carefully contructed alternate San Francisco which is as beloved, and uniquely Moore, as Pine Cove. You Suck ... you know, just doesn't. No, it doesn't!

If you haven't read a Christopher Moore book, I'm not sure how to describe it. It'd be like trying to describe blue without mentioning "blue." Or in this case, like trying to describe Blue and her connection to male Smurf fantasies without mentioning blue body paint and a bunch of Animals (that probably doesn't seem funny this point, but it will later... maybe). The best I can do is to tell you that if you enjoy witty, wacky, sick humor, you need to read this book. And just to be clear, I mean "sick" in a good way, but the book isn't meant for children or prudes - if you're offended by "adult" or "juvenile" humor, well there's no making you happy, but you probably won't like this either. If this is your first Moore book, I'd suggest picking up and reading Bloodsucking Fiends along with You Suck. I suppose you'll manage just fine without reading it, but it's a great book and you'll want to read it anyway, so there's no reason not to save yourself an extra step. For those of you who are already familiar with Christopher Moore's works, this review doesn't matter since you're going to buy the book anyway. There's no question, I know you will and you know it too. For what it's worth though, it's every bit as good as the rest.
