excellent read

One of the best books I've read in a long time. The story touched my heart. Loved the two main characters.

Touching and eye-opening story of slavery

I haven't read many fictional books set in this era of America's history, but this one intrigued me. The story explores what it was like for an enslaved woman at this time, the feelings she struggles with as she raises a child that is not her own - the contempt for her owners and the eventual endearment for the white girl that is forced upon her and how this woman shapes a new generation to a better way of thinking.

Love comes in all colors

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters come alive throughout. While this is a sad time in our history, I am glad that these days are over. The love shown through Mattie and Lisbeth is strong and true. We could all learn from them.

This was a very sweet story!

The characters were believable and relatable. The love shared between Marrie and Lisabeth was beautiful and I loved watching Lisabeth’s life choices shaped by the beliefsthat Mattie taught her. Beat book i have read in awhile! Strongly recommend!
