Great for Homeschoolers, too.

I teach writing and literature at our local homeschool co-op and this is the best resource for an accoutability group (co-op group that meets once a week) learning how to write a research paper. Meet once a week and introduce the main topic for that week. Send the kids home with their copy of the text (they can write answers to the homework exercises directly inside) - this will provide enough work at home. When you meet the following week, review the appropriate answers together, then start on the next topic. The exersices give the kids work to do with "imaginary" topics - create an outline, write a thesis statement, make some notecards of your resouurces, etc. - then they can APPLY that new knowledged to THEIR OWN ongoing work on THEIR research paper. If you work it right they will complete the 10-12 week course and have a 5-8 page fully cited research paper completed by the end of the class. It even includes a section that will serve as their resource for how to make citations and document them in the Works Cited page. Good for 7-10th grade, I think. Have fun!

Great for high school students

There are 10 English teachers at our high school, and we think this guide is the best. Our department chair recommended it and now several of us use it. With so many guides to writing research papers out there, it's good to know that there is at least one that gets the job done without a lot of fluff. This book covers everything you need to teach the research paper process. This would be especially helpful for a new teacher or a parent who is homeschooling because it covers everything from selecting a topic to proper citations to works cited pages, and other things you might not have thought about.

a research paper

At first when i bought this book (my teacher forced me to), i thought that it would be one of those books which you read about half way through and fall alseep. However, i used to have a 3.7 gpa becuase of my bad english grade everything else was an A. With the help of this book, my english research paper grade went high again. Of course tons of students in my class have this book too (it is mandatory for english). I'd just never think of it as useful
