I have yet to find any other reference book that does what this one does, which is to present country by country descriptions of religious, racial, and ethnic minorities. Some of the economic and political information is dated, but the social and historical contexts this book provides are still invaluable tools. In my office, that deals with human rights and refugees, this is often the first book people reach for to learn something about a new country conflict or situation. The chapters are written by a variety of experts, and are well written, scholarly, and unbiased. Moreover, all of the articles are concise. I believe the last version of this was published in 1997.
