Having worked during my previous 1951 summer vacation as an engineering student laboratory assistant at the U.S. Army Signal Corps Research Laboratory, I was able to qualify for a special 1952 summer vacation assignment after receiving an honors grade in WPI sophomore physics it led to my being assigned to working with visiting physics faculty Professor Samuel Tolansky, RSF, then on sabbatical. Professor Tolansky was a world renowned expert in optics from the University of London. What I learned as his laboratory assistant has a major impact upon my subsequent professional life.
