WOMEN WITH ADHD Women with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have been largely underdiagnosed and misunderstood for decades. This is partially due to the fact that ADHD is often seen as an issue that only affects boys, and many of the symptoms can be seen as socially acceptable behaviors in girls. As a result, girls and women with ADHD are often overlooked and their symptoms are not properly addressed. ADHD presents differently in females than it does in males. Women tend to have more subtle symptoms such as difficulty focusing, being easily distracted, being forgetful, difficulty organizing tasks, and difficulty completing tasks. These symptoms are often attributed to other issues such as depression, anxiety, or stress. Additionally, women with ADHD may have difficulty regulating their emotions which can lead to problems with relationships, self-esteem, and overall functioning.
